Measuring Cognitive and Strategic Decision-Making

Cognitive assessments are important tools for evaluating the mental performance and potential of individuals in professional contexts.

Take a closer look at the cognitive performance of your employees

Cognitive assessments are standardized test procedures for measuring cognitive abilities and performance. They assess a person’s ability to deal with problems, find solutions, reason, and cover various cognitive areas such as logical thinking, problem solving, information processing, verbal and numerical reasoning, and spatial reasoning.

Benefits

Highly predictive of career success and job performance

Intelligence, like personality, is a stable trait that persists over time. We recommend using a cognitive assessment alongside our personality assessments to increase accuracy and better predict an employee's job performance.

High predictive power:

Cognitive tests are strong predictors of future career success and job performance. They provide reliable predictions of how candidates are likely to perform.

Additional insights:

Cognitive tests provide valuable insights about candidates that cannot be captured by other selection methods. As such, they complement to other methods such as interviews or assessment centers.

Objective measurement:

They offer a standardized and objective measure of important cognitive skills such as analytical thinking, problem-solving, and information processing.

Efficiency:

Cognitive tests can expedite and simplify the selection process by offering a quick initial assessment of candidates.

Versatility:

There are tests for various cognitive areas, such as verbal or numerical reasoning, that can be selected based on the job profile.

Complementary to other methods:

Cognitive tests provide valuable insights about candidates that cannot be obtained through other selection methods, such as interviews or assessment centers.

Focus on job-related skills:

Tests such as the HBRI are specifically designed to measure skills relevant in a business context, such as business reasoning or decision-making.

Scientific basis:

Like other Hogan products, the cognitive tests are grounded in decades of research and adhere to high scientific standards.

HBRI – Insights into cognitive performance

The Hogan Business Reasoning Inventory (HBRI) provides insights into a person’s business reasoning abilities by assessing how effectively they solve a set of common business issues. You can use the HBRI results to predict how a person will evaluate information and make business decisions.

The report first presents an “Overall Business Reasoning Score” and analyzes a candidate’s “Quantitative” and “Qualitative Reasoning” in the subscale section. These two values together determine the individual’s “Cognitive Style”.

JUDGMENT - An Overview of Judgment

The Hogan Judgment report describes how a person processes information, makes judgments, and makes decisions. It also provides insights into how a person reacts to feedback and how open they are to feedback or coaching.

Especially for (junior) managers and high potentials, this report offers valuable information, including how others are likely to perceive their judgment.

Raven’s Matrice Test

The Raven’s APM-III report provides a highly reliable assessment of test takers’ general cognitive abilities.

This includes measuring the ability to make sense of ambiguous information, formulate new concepts, and solve problems and tasks when presented with new, complex information in unfamiliar situations.

For example, this matrix test can help predict whether an applicant or employee will succeed in performing new and unfamiliar tasks.
